Travel Training careers

Working as an Independent Travel Trainer is a rewarding role supporting young people to learn how to travel independently.

Our Independent Travel Trainers are based in the community, working one-to-one to support young people with special educational needs to travel independently using public transport. Our training helps enhance their independence and ultimately improve their life chances, increasing access to new activities, employment and education.

Independent Travel Trainers have good communication skills and display a caring, patient and level headed attitude in the delivery of training. They have a genuine interest in working with young people and have the ability to communicate in a clear, pleasant and friendly manner. They also have an excellent awareness of personal safety, are organised, punctual and be able to deliver training positively with energy and enthusiasm.

Travel Trainers:

  • Are DBS checked
  • Are first aid trained
  • Receive detailed internal training with HCT Group
  • Are matched with a young person and work with them one-to-one based on their individual needs

Michelle

Michelle was Norfolk’s first Travel Trainer. Her highlight so far was meeting her first young person and seeing his excitement, and she can’t wait to help him realise his potential!

Jaki

Jaki structures her training with weekly plans for the young person to follow and always ask for their feedback. She says this is the most rewarding job of her career so far!

Hasnain

Hasnain plans the training for the young people he works with, and they progress through it at the individual’s own pace. Hasnain enjoys speaking with the school, local councils and parents too as part of his role.
