This programme is delivered on behalf of the Norfolk County Council by HCT Group, providing Independent Travel Training for young people with special educational needs.
Our Independent Travel Training takes advantage of the young person’s home to school journey and offers a very personal service to ensure that young people are fully trained and competent with travelling independently. The training takes place over a number of weeks utilising skilled travel trainers supporting and teaching young people how to complete their journey safely and enjoyably.
Independent Travel Training provides young people with confidence and new opportunities to take advantage of in the future, helping them to progress into further education and employment. Young people will be able to utilise their training to meet friends outside of school and create their own range of diverse journeys to further enhance their wellbeing.
Who is it for?
The Travel Training programme is for young people who:
• Are aged 10-26
• Live in the county of Norfolk
• Currently use specialist transport
Initially the scheme will focus on, but not be limited to Norwich and it is hoped that over the next 5 years will branch out as much as possible to support young people in locations across Norfolk. Of course, with Norfolk being over 2000 square miles in size this will be a challenge; however, the aim is to utilise opportunities for bus and train journeys as well as pedestrian skills where practical and logistically possible.
